In 1754, Fort Cumberland was constructed during the French and Indian War. The settlement of Cumberland was later established in 1787 after the war. The first National Road was built in Cumberland, Maryland becoming a eminence transportation center in the 19th century. Cumberland was the second largest manufacturing area throughout Maryland.

Land Usage
The concept for this project is Eco Friendly Living. Materials used throughout the project are purposed or recycled materials to create an environment friendly residential living space and public green spaces. Along the left side of Wills Creek a completely redeveloped residential area. Each home is created using refurbished shipping containers fully powered by solar energy. Between each home are paved patio allow for privacy and social gathering. Vegetated green spaces that act as storm water management. On both sides of Wills Creek the walls were taken down and replaced by levees that open into vegetated terraces. Connected to the gap is the newly developed Wills Creek Park. Throughout the park vegetation of various trees, bushes, and flowers allowing for shade throughout the area. Each container home is two floors with a porch and second floor deck. The FAR of the homes consists of 0.32, this amount was calculated from each home being 2 story and using 50% of the property.
