Applications for the 2025 workshop are now closed
What: 1 day workshop on learning modules and lesson plans for energy and climate topics suitable for any high school STEM course, using the latest earth and environmental science data and research
When: Monday June 16, 2025, 9 AM - 5:00 PM
Where: WVU campus in Morgantown, in Brooks Hall, home of the Department of Geology and Geography
Participant support:
$250 offered for participation and to defray travel costs
Breakfast (optional), lunch and dinner (optional) provided
Local lodging for 1 night will be provided if needed
Approximately 18 WV High School STEM teachers who apply for the workshop will be invited to join the project as “Educator Influencers” (EIs). EIs who attend the workshop will recieve a $250 stipend, meals during the workshop and if needed 1 night of lodging in Morgantown by request.
During the workshop EIs will:
Meet Project leaders, learn about goals and pedagogy of the Exploring Geosciences Solutions (EGeoS) learning modules, a new initiative at WVU supported by the National Science Foundation
Provide feedback on module prototypes and work in small groups to draft new modules on topics of interest.
After the workshop, any of the EIs who implement the new modules in their fall 2025 teaching and provide feedback, will recieve
an additional $250 stipend
any necessary supplies for implementation
a classroom visit by a WVU project team member to help implement the module, observe the class and take any feedback from EIs and students
Additionally, three EIs from the 2025 workshop cohort will be selected to recieve funding to attend the WVSTA conference at Canaan Valley Resort on October 23-25, 2025 and share their experience with EGeoS learning resources!
