Webinar: Next Generation Workforce Development for Nuclear Waste Disposal R&D

Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy, the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Science and Technology has launched the Next-Gen Workforce Development Pilot Program, which aims to inspire and inform the next generation of scientists, engineers and policy makers about nuclear waste disposal research and development. The program includes summer internship programs, dedicated postdoc positions, and seminars. In the past two years, the pilot program – at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Sandia National Labs and Los Alamos National Lab – has reached out to many universities, with more than 20 undergraduate and graduate students having participated in the summer internship program (see below for more information) . 

 

This webinar series aims to provide a broad overview of nuclear waste management and disposal in the US as well as the latest research activities. The webinar will be bi-weekly in the Spring 2024 semester. The target audience is undergraduate and graduate students in science and engineering degree programs as well as policy, sociotechnical and social science programs.
