Computing systems and networks – Connecting computers

Challenge your learners to develop their understanding of digital devices, with an initial focus on inputs, processes, and outputs. Start by comparing digital and non-digital devices, before introducing them to computer networks that include network infrastructure devices like routers and switches.

Lesson 1: Pictograms

Waxwing class went out on a plog today. We went to Walthamstow Market and jogged around whilst picking up litter. We created a tally chart of the litter we found. We then transformed this data by using the website J2E data and created a pictogram to represent our findings.

Lesson 2: How does a digital device work?

This lesson introduces the concepts of input, process, and output. These concepts are fundamental to all digital devices.

Lesson 3: What parts make up a digital device?

In this lesson, learners developed their knowledge of input, process, and output and applied it to devices and parts of devices that they will be familiar with in their everyday surroundings.

We used fruit and vegetable scraps to make natural inks.
