4.1 Regional Need
The Tri-Agency have established a specific priority regarding establishing pathways for Texans to earn credentials and ultimately become employed in a high-skill, high-demand industry or occupation. Aligning school districts’ Career and Technical Education Programs of Study to regional workforce conditions is an important aspect of this work.
Using software from Chmura Economics (JobsEQ), CareerCraft reviewed several labor market information reports to surface key industry sectors and occupations in the defined regional labor shed. The region was defined as a 45- minute drive time from the Mission CISD central office location. Data from ZIP codes within this defined region were utilized for all reports as part of this project.
The largest sector in the Mission CISD Labor Shed (45-Minute Drive Time) is Health Care and Social Assistance, employing 113,889 workers. The next-largest sectors in the region are Educational Services (52,872 workers) and Retail Trade (48,557 workers). High location quotients (LQs) indicate sectors in which a region has high concentrations of employment compared to the national average. The sectors with the largest LQs in the region are Health Care and Social Assistance (LQ = 1.86), Educational Services (1.60), and Utilities (1.22). Sectors in the Mission CISD Labor Shed (45-Minute Drive Time) with the highest average wages per worker are Mining, Quarrying, and Oil and Gas Extraction ($98,241), Public Administration ($75,426), and Utilities ($62,377). Regional sectors with the best job growth (or most moderate job losses) over the last 10 years are Health Care and Social Assistance (+27,018 jobs), Accommodation and Food Services (+8,768), and Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services (+7,428). Over the next 10 years, employment in the Mission CISD Labor Shed (45-Minute Drive Time) is projected to expand by 49,762 jobs. The fastest growing sector in the region is expected to be Health Care and Social Assistance with a 2.0% year-over-year rate of growth. The strongest forecast by number of jobs over this period is expected for Health Care and Social Assistance (+24,811 jobs), Accommodation and Food Services (+3,851), and Educational Services (+2,877).
4.2 Post Secondary Opportunities
TSIA Tutoring and Assessments are offered throughout the year, see artifacts for specific dates. Mission High School is also a testing site for PSAT School Day, SAT, and ACT.
4.3 Course Sequence, 4.4 Course Offerings Mission CISD CTE Course Sequence and DOI Plan of Flexibility enable the district to bring in skilled and experienced staff members to work in our CTE Department to enhance students’ training opportunities in positions that are difficult to fill.
4.5 Delivery of Courses
Mission High School has an IHE partnership with South Texas College which includes college courses taught on campus by high school and college faculty.
4.6 Academic Performance on High School
Mission High School offers intervention courses for students in the STAAR tested areas of English I and II, Algebra, Biology, and US History where students receive intensive support and remediation.
