Welcome to

Ms. Araceli Tamez

8th Grade

Hello, and welcome to a new school year! I am so excited to have your child in my class. This year will be full of new, fun, and challenging learning opportunities. I can’t wait to get started!

Social Contract

Starting off the school year with a classroom social contract is a good way to let students know what’s going to be expected of them in the coming weeks and months of the school year and what the consequences will be if they don’t follow the rules. Win, win, right?

That’s why creating a student-led classroom contract can be invaluable. Instead of handing students a list of class rules, then moving on to the next task on the agenda, students will create this year’s classroom social contract — including rules not just for them but for me too!

Welcome Families

Dear Families,

Welcome back to a new school year! My name is Araceli Tamez and I will be your child’s teacher this year! This will be my 25th year of teaching and my 8th year here at Kenneth White Junior High. I was raised in the valley. I attended the University of Texas Rio Grande, where I pursued my education degree. In my free time I enjoy the outdoors. This summer I will take my granddaughter to Disney World!

8th grade is a very busy year filled with lots of fun and exciting learning opportunities. I am very excited about what is in store for your child this year, and I look forward to working with you as well.

On this site, you will find information about each subject, our curriculum, how our school day will run, schedules, expectations, and a few forms I would like you to please fill out and return to school with your child.

I look forward to a fun-filled year with your child. I have many exciting things planned and can’t wait to get started!

Sincerely,

Ms. Tamez

Parent Resources

Parents that are actively involved in their children's education see improvements in attendance, behavior, academic performance, social skills, and school adaptation in their children. Parental participation also more firmly positions young students to cultivate a lifetime love of learning, which is crucial for long-term success, according to studies.

Student 360 v3 is a portal used to view student information. It uses a touch-friendly, card-based interface suitable for computers and tablets of all sizes.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has a way for parents to check their child’s STAAR test scores online.

The district has partnered with Goodside Health to make it possible for your child to be treated under the care of a pediatrician or pediatric specialized provider right in the school nurse’s office through two-way video conference. It’s like a visit to your pediatrician’s office without leaving school!
