Classroom Library
Our classroom library is a very big deal in our classroom! It is also a popular place to be during many parts of our day. I have shared below a few things I think you should know about this special corner of our classroom.
Background:
Our classroom library mimics that of a real public library.
Books are organized on our shelves by fiction and non-fiction. In the fiction section, you will find books organized by author’s last name. In the non-fiction section, books are organized in tubs by topic.
A new student is selected each week to be our “Librarian”. This student refreshes the books that sit on the tops of our shelves with his/her favorite books as well as books that cover topics that correlate to what we are currently learning.
I try my best to add new books to our classroom library frequently throughout the year. These books are most often purchased through classroom bonus points from the Scholastic book orders because of YOUR orders!
Our library shelves offer books that cover many different reading levels. Our library has books of all genres, interests, and reading levels. There is something to offer to ALL students in our classroom!
Rules:
Students may have 2 books checked out at a time from our classroom library. In addition to these books, they will also have books checked out from the school library.
Students must return books back to the correct place on the shelves when he/she is finished.
I go by the honor system. If I find a student is hoarding a collection of our classroom books in his/her desk, we may have to have a talk. ☺
Students may bring books from our classroom home to read…always!
I have no deadline on how long books can be checked out.
