Guiding Statements
Students will read on level or higher by the beginning of the third grade and will remain on level or higher as an MISD student.
Students will demonstrate mastery of Algebra I by the end of ninth grade.
Students will graduate with 24+ college hours and/or industry certification or a certificate.
Students will participate in an extra or co-curricular activity.
Our parents and students will have choices with educational opportunities.
Expectations and Goals
High learning expectations for our students begins with high instructional expectations for each subject area Designer. Consequently, every day students will experience the following instructional components that are embedded into the culture of both the Jerry Knight STEM Academy and Mansfield ISD, in general:
The Fundamental Five
Frame the Lesson: Letting students know what they should expect to learn and what product they'll produce by the lesson's end
Work in the Power Zone: Continuously operating within close proximity of all students (where the action is)
Frequent, Small-Group, Purposeful Talk: Students engage in meaningful conversation every 10-15 minutes
Recognize & Reinforce: Constantly highlighting student successes and progress
Write Critically: Students perform meaningful writing in every subject area every day
