For the main experiment - constructing an electromagnet:
a C or D cell battery
3-inch bolt or nail
Rubber band
Insulated copper wire you may have at home, or magnet wire (amazon!)
Paperclips
Optional Supplies
Small round magnets-flat on each side, about the same size as a AAA battery
AA battery
Narrow plastic tube - like irrigation pipe that the battery can fit through (Warming: I thought of just using a roll of paper that the kids could make, but there is a very real risk of fire as the wires can get very hot)

Adapter that screws into hose nozzle (most likely 3/4x1-1/2)
Hose swivel adapter (most likely 3/4 in x 1/4 in)
