Minot Public Schools' Journey Program for highly-gifted learners provides challenging curriculum at an accelerated pace. It consists of three self-contained classrooms ~ 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades ~ that are housed at Edison Elementary.
This program meets the unique academic and social/emotional needs of gifted students in a supportive educational environment.
Do Journey students participate in school-wide activities?
Yes. Our students take part in all activities such as assemblies, fundraisers, and holiday classroom parties, Our students and staff are a valuable part of the Edison SPARKS team.
How is a Journey classroom different from a general ed classroom?
Journey classrooms look and feel just like a regular classroom. Students learn math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. They go to music, physical education, counselor, and library. The difference lies in the curriculum and accelerated pace of instruction.
Do the students get a lot of homework?
There is very little to no homework assigned. We encourage reading at home, but this is not required. We feel that when the students leave the school, family interaction is a priority. Make meals together, ask your children specific questions about their learning, spend time at an after school activity. These are all part of the learning process.
That said... if work is not completed during work time in school there may be times when it is sent home to be completed!
