Minot United Competitive Speech
Minot United Competitive Speech
Competitive Speech is a NDHSAA sanctioned activity in which students compete against other schools, in front of judges, around the state in a variety of events. Students choose up to 4 events during a season and can take 2 of those events to the regional and state competitions.
The season lasts from January to April with workshops starting in December and individual practices starting in January. Practices are not a daily occurrence. Students are required to attend at least two practices/event each week. High schoolers will schedule their own practices with either coach and work on pieces outside of practice as well in preparation.
What to expect at a meet:
You can expect to see many other speech teams from other schools. You will be presenting in classrooms most of the time, and will have about 3-5 other people, along with the Judge, in the room with you. There are either 3 rounds or 2 rounds with a finals round. Once you have finished with all of your rounds, you will wait in the auditorium or gym for the awards section to start. After the awards have been given out, we will get on the bus or suburban and head back to Minot! Most of the time the meets themselves last from about 8:30 AM to about 3:00 PM.
