I am passionate about teaching Early Childhood. As an Early Childhood Educator, I educate the whole child by aiding in physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and linguistic development. It is my goal, as a Kindergarten teacher, to make one of their first learning experience a positive one and to foster a love for learning to lead students to become life long learners.
I feel the classroom environment should be one where children feel safe, accepted, and diversity is celebrated. I believe in teaching with compassion, dedication and enthusiasm. I am a strong believer that a classroom should be a community. In this community, the children and teachers show respect for one another, encourage one another, and work collaboratively. In order to create a dynamic learning community, high and consistent expectations are set for the students’ behavior and academic success. Students are encouraged to develop their confidence and growth mindset with positive reinforcement from teachers and peers.
I make it my priority to form a positive and trusting relationship with each student. It is important for me to understand each student’s interests, learning styles, strengths and areas that need improvement. I believe every student has the ability to be successful. As an educator, I strive to find the different path each student needs to take in order to reach his or her highest potential and grow as an individual. I create an individualized and enriching learning environment by focusing on the students’ learning styles, academic strengths and interests while providing students opportunities to make choices.
The learning process is something that should always be enjoyed. Students will not learn through lecture and teacher centered learning. To facilitate new learning, I use strategies that I know will be most effective for the learners in my classroom. I foster learning through engaging lessons that are hands-on and student-centered. Learning is made relevant for each individual and connections are made across subject areas and to real life. I believe students in kindergarten learn best through purposeful play. Play is one of the primary processes that allow us to interact with others in a positive way and helps us achieve prosocial programming for higher brain regions to be engaged. Through the use of technology, learning is enhanced and students are prepared for the future. Just as I reflect on my own teaching, I encourage students to reflect on their own learning, set individual goals and self-assess progress.
As an educator, I believe it is my responsibility to provide my students with a positive learning experience everyday. Providing students with choice is a priority in my classroom. My goal is to remain current with educational research and new technology, stay innovative, and prepare students for the future.
