Let's talk about counseling.
Play is the work of childhood and, until pre-adolescence, it is one of the primary ways that children process what they have experienced. For this reason, play therapy is the approach of choice for helping children process difficult emotions and situations. If a child enjoys creating art, art can also be an avenue of healing. I use these two methods to help children process their feelings.
As appropriate, I may also offer instruction in mindfulness including strategies to help with self-regulation, impulse control, and mood. So, I guess one might say, I offer a child-centered, eclectic approach to counseling.
