Q: What is considered a valid contact?
A: A valid contact is the ability to leave a message on a voicemail or with a responsible adult, US Mail, a note in a backpack with a trusted student, or email. A text message can be sent to the parent as well.
Q: How many contacts must be made to the parent regarding the IEP meeting?
A: A minimum of three contacts. They should be documented on the cover page and in the contact log.
Q: Is a Progress Report or Conferences appropriate for the Family Engagement portion of the IEP?
A: No. It should be student specific to involve and engage the family in working with their child in order to help them progress in academic and functional skills
Q: If someone is unable to attend the meeting, do I complete a new Notice of Meeting?
A: Yes. You will complete, lock and give to the parent the new Notice of Meeting, leaving on the original invitees and adding the person who will now attend the meeting.
Q: Is an FBA/BIP required if a student has behaviors that impede their learning?
A: It depends. If there is a goal addressing behavior and the Supplementary Aides and Services also address the behavior, this may be appropriate to address the behavior. If the behavior continues despite these supports, data should be collected and an FBA/BIP held with a meeting.
Q: Does a Plan of Provision need to be done each time a student is suspended?
A: Once a student reaches 10 days of suspension, or removal from services in a school year, a Plan of Provision must go home with the student each time they are suspended past the 10th day.
Q: What does the “Implementation Date” mean?
A: The Implementation Date must match the Start Date and is 5 business days from the date the locked IEP leaves your hands.
Q: How is Extended School Year (ESY) determined?
A: The team must discuss ESY at every ANNUAL IEP meeting. It is determined based on Regression, Recoupment, Emerging Skills AND Severity of Disability.
