The Employment Training Program (ETP) - The ETP provides support to students 18-21 who have been recommended because of their successful participation in CATP and more highly developed job readiness skills. Students receive elective credit for their participation. The specialists with the Employment Training Program work closely with local businesses and other organizations to develop job opportunities for participating students.
ETS Specialist:
Community Assessment Training Program (CATP) - The CATP program consists of over 20 different worksites at which students receive vocational education from the MPS special education teacher assigned to the site along with one or more special education paraprofessionals. Over 200 students throughout the district participate in CATP each semester. Students learn both the "how to" skills of a specific job, and also the general soft skills of employment including teamwork, professionalism and handling conflict. Student receive elective credit for their participation. All areas of disability are represented. Students 16 and older are eligible to apply.
On The Job Training/Education (OJT) - The OJT Program employs students each semester. Students must be recommended by their IEP teacher, Transition Coordinator or their CATP teacher. Participating students receive elective credit and are paid minimum wage. OJT students must be able to use public transportation or provide their own transportation.
What’s a youth apprenticeship? - Spend half your day in school and half your day at a job. Get paid for working – about 15 hours a week – while you train for a career!
What do I need? - Have at least a 2.0 GPA, a 90% attendance rate, and be ready to work.
When do I apply? - Juniors and seniors can be youth apprentices. Apply in your sophomore or junior year.
