AP Capstone

AP Capstone

MHSA is proud to have a student population passionate about dedicating themselves to their art. In addition to immersive study of their major, many of our students desire to excel academically. The AP Capstone program enriches current AP offerings, provides an experience that challenges high achieving students, and rewards them for their hard work.

What is AP Capstone?

AP Seminar is the first year of an innovative diploma program called AP Capstone that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges and designed to complement and enhance in-depth, discipline specific study in other AP courses. In AP Seminar, students investigate real-world issues from multiple perspectives, gathering and analyzing information from various sources in order to develop credible and valid evidence-based arguments. In AP Research, qualified students from year one cultivate the skills and discipline necessary to conduct independent research and inquiry in order to produce and defend their scholarly work.

Capstone is organized around 5 big ideas:

1. Question and Explore

2. Understand and Analyze Arguments

3. Evaluate Multiple Perspectives

4. Synthesize Ideas

5. Team, Transform, and Transmit

Capstone Breakdown

Students typically take AP Seminar in grade 10 or 11, followed by AP Research.
