GEF Demonstration Schools Vision, Mission and Expectations
Accompanying the close of the 2016-17 and opening of the 2017-18 school year, the next phase of the GE Grant Demonstration Schools is set to begin. For the past 5 school years, these schools have received the support of a GE Coach, as they have worked to implement best practices and standards-aligned instruction. In the next phase of the work, the GE Demonstration Schools will not have the support of a full-time GE Coach, but have worked to embed the GE Strategies so that they can be sustained and the legacy of the GE Grant carries on and the students will continue to benefit from standards-aligned instruction that increases knowledge through cognitive engagement.
Beyond the GE Strategies listed below, each GE Demonstration School will continue to serve as an example to other schools in the Milwaukee Public Schools. They will each maintain a GE School banner, signifying that they are a place where instructional standards remain high, best practices remain strong and teachers are supported in the continued implementation of the GE Strategies. Each school will have access to the GE Legacy Site, where resources used to implement the GE Strategies, including model videos of the strategies in action, are kept. Beyond the GE Strategies, the GE Demonstration Schools will also serve as an example of Culturally Responsive Teaching Practices, and the integration of Student Discourse, across content areas and interwoven into each strategy listed below.
The expectations of the demonstration schools are outlined in this document.
