Any Wisconsin high school students who are ready for driver education and qualify for free or reduced lunch should apply for a Driver Education Grant to pay for 100% of their classroom and behind-the-wheel training. Students should apply ASAP starting at 9:00 AM on 8/25/25 at https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/teen-driver/teen-sfty/degrant.aspx. The funds may go quickly, but will be replenished quarterly.
Milwaukee Public Schools is starting a partnership with Speak Up, Speak Out (SUSO), a confidential state-run tipline to help keep schools safe and support anyone in crisis.
Although this partnership will be fully developed in the 2025-26 school year, we want to make you aware that this resource is available to students, families, and staff right now.
Students, families, and staff can use the tipline to report threats to schools, bullying, drug use, and more to keep themselves and their school communities safe. Anyone in crisis also can turn to the tipline for help. All contact remains anonymous.
Please tell your children and your students that it’s important to let a trusted adult know when someone is struggling or showing concerning behavior. Speak Up, Speak Out is operated by the Office of School Safety within the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
The SUSO threat reporting system is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is free to all. Students, parents, school staff, and community members can submit information about a school safety concern in one of several ways:
Download the SUSO app (Android or iOS)
Visit speakup.widoj.gov
Call (800) MYSUSO-1
Text SUSO to 738477
SUSO Resource Center staff respond to reports and deploy a local response by communicating directly with school administrators, school counselors, psychologists, and social workers. At times, they will contact law enforcement partners.
To learn more about the SUSO Resource Center and how to report safety concerns, visit speakup.widoj.gov or find them on social media, @speakupwi.
