I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Public Policy & Political Science Department at the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business and Public Policy at Mills College and a Visiting Scholar at the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law. I received my M.A. and Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at the University of California at Riverside in 2013 and 2015, after completing a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Women's Studies, LGBTQ Emphasis at CSU San Bernardino in 2008. I also spent about five years at the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law as a pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellow.

My research is focused on attitude formation and change about marginalized groups, particularly lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people (LGBT). I am also interested in the political behavior of LGBT people with a central focus on the role of linked fate in LGBTQ politics. I have published research on the demography of LGBT people, and the experiences of LGBT people when interacting with the State. I am primarily a quantitative researcher interested in multivariate mixture and structural equation models, multilevel models, and their application to causal inference frameworks -- both Pearlian and Rubin causal models. As a scholar who cares deeply about social justice, I have signed onto & have been a part of numerous amicus curiae briefs on behalf of scholars who study LGBT populations. Inherently interdisciplinary, you will find my research in a diverse array of disciplinary and interdisciplinary journals.

I have received research grants from the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law, the Faculty Development Grant committee at Mills College, the Quigley Summer Research Grant in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Mills College, and I have been a Short Term Consultant with the World Bank and collaborated with USAID. I am the recipient of the MPSA Best Paper Award on LGBT politics in 2014, the APSA Best Paper Award on LGBT politics in 2014, and second place award recipient to the Pacific Chapter of the American Association of Public Opinion Research student paper competition in 2011. Some of my research has received broad coverage in outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Washington Blade, Bloomberg, NY Mag, Elle Magazine, Windy City Times, Medium, Daily Kos, NewNowNext, and ... Breitbart News.
