All families complete a Home Language Survey when they register their child for school.
If a student has not attended a US school and speaks a language other than English at home, they will take a WIDA English language screening test. The test will be given during the first month of school or during the first two weeks after registering during the school year. A letter will be mailed home about this.
If a student qualifies as an English Learner, then they will receive instruction from an ESL teacher. Sometimes the ESL teacher will go into the student's classroom and sometimes the student will leave the classroom for instruction. A letter will be mailed home about this.
All English Learners will take the ACCESS for ELs test in January. Â Results will be mailed to parents in May. A student's score determines if they will continue to receive English language instruction. A letter will be mailed home about this.
If a student's ACCESS score qualifies them to exit the English Language program, then their performance will be monitored for four more years.
Teachers may communicate with families using email or the Talking Points app.
