Seal Programs
Our district is proud to offer students the opportunity to earn distinguished New York State diploma recognitions through our Seal programs: the New York State Seal of Biliteracy and the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness.
These programs celebrate students who demonstrate meaningful skills, knowledge, and commitment in areas that extend beyond traditional coursework. Each Seal provides students with a valuable distinction on their high school diploma and transcript, highlighting their preparation for college, careers, and active participation in an increasingly interconnected world.
The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes graduating seniors who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional world language. This honor celebrates multilingualism, cultural understanding, and the ability to communicate across communities—skills that are highly valued by colleges, employers, and society as a whole.
The Seal of Civic Readiness recognizes students who have developed strong civic knowledge, skills, mindsets, and experiences. Through coursework, civic engagement, and action-oriented learning, students demonstrate their understanding of participatory government, civic responsibility, and the importance of contributing positively to their communities.
Together, these Seal programs reflect our commitment to preparing students not only for academic success, but also for leadership, communication, citizenship, and lifelong learning. Students interested in pursuing either Seal are encouraged to speak with their school counselor, World Language teacher, Social Studies teacher, or building administrator for more information about eligibility, requirements, and timelines.
