ELA Course Overview and Objectives:
In grade 6, we will be reading and analyzing works of literature and nonfiction text that range across genres, cultures, and centuries. We will be looking closely at key details, how texts are structured, and comparing different texts.
We will also produce well-written and organized:
narratives that develop logically from beginning to end,
informational pieces that convey ideas and content clearly,
and arguments that support a claim using valid and sufficient evidence.

Welcome to World Geography and Ancient Civilizations! You might be wondering what we are going to be studying this year: Early human history, ancient societies, how they developed and evolved, their greatest contributions.

How do we know what we know about the ancient past?
How do geography and natural resources affect the ways societies develop and interact?
How do trade and exchange of ideas serve as engines of social change?
What roles do religions and belief systems play in ancient societies and in our own?
How do societies govern and organize themselves through laws and social structure?
How have they used creativity and innovation to improve their quality of life?
