Course Overview and Objectives

In Grade 6, instructional time should focus on four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking 


Science Course Overview and Objectives

Science this year is going to look a little different. The students will spend each trimester working on a different topic with a different teacher. Students will spend one trimester with Miss. Ferris learning about light, matter, and sound using a new curriculim called Open SciEd. Open SciEd is an inquiry based curriculum where students lead the discussion and make new discoveries for themselves. Students will also spend a trimester with Mr. Gervais doing Project Lead the Way. The last trimester, students will spend with both Mrs. Sullivan and Mr. Tarka to learn about earths place in space, plate tectonics & rock cycling, evolution, chemistry & density, and cells & systems.
