The first two weeks of term have whizzed by and I am delighted to welcome your child into Primary 7. I think we are going to have a very busy and exciting year ahead. They have all settled into their new class and have shown a fantastic positive attitude which will allow them to achieve their best.
As part of our Personal and Social Development and RME, we are looking at teamwork –mixing the classes to support transition to secondary school- and how we can keep our ‘Good to be Green’ rules. In RME we are covering Shinto which is the biggest religion in Japan. We will be continuing with our Star of the week, which will be announced during assemblies. These will be on a Friday this year.
The classes will be having P.E. once a week, on a Tuesday with Mr. Douglas the P.E. specialist and Mr MacDonald will take P7A on a Wednesday. P7B are swimming every Monday until the beginning of November. Please ensure that your child has appropriate P.E. kit on these days. Please could they have gym shoes, a hair bobble if necessary and ensure all clothing is labelled to avoid items ending up in lost property.
The children will also have a weekly library visit on a Tuesday. Children are also able to bring in appropriate books from home that they would like to read during class reading time.
This term in Literacy the class are focusing on imaginative texts, developing main characters, describing detailed settings and varying endings. Core reading continues three days a week linked to writing. We will also be continuing to use our VCOP skills to help up level our work as part of Big Writing. We will also be working on peer and self-assessment so that the children are aware of what to do to further improve their work.
In Maths we are going to be focusing on place value and information handling. Developing our mental maths and problem solving skills will also be our focus throughout the year as well as linking our maths work to everyday situations. We would appreciate if times tables could be practised regularly at home.
In Science we will be looking at light and sound, hopefully linking with a visit to UHI.
French – In P7 we will be learning about classroom instructions, greetings and numbers.
Topic – This term we will be focusing on “It’s a Wonderful World” learning about all aspects of Japan.
Homework will be issued on a Monday and is to be returned on a Thursday and it will link to what we are learning in class. If there are any problems with homework please drop us a note and we can help your child in class. Homework will begin on Monday 2nd September.
Miss Strath will be teaching Art on a Monday.
We would be delighted to hear from you any time if you have any worries or are in need of any information. Please feel free to contact us through the school office.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs M McCloskey/Mr B MacDonald
Class Teachers.
