Interviewing Taylor’s Principals

by Staff Reporter Kaylee Louie

As we all know, Taylor has one principal and two vice principals. The main principal being Mrs. Zlatunich and two vice principals, Mr. Romer and Mr. Nichols. Most students residing within Taylor don’t have much knowledge about our principles. So I took it in my own hands to inform people about our principles and their goals they try to achieve here at Taylor. Now let’s get on with the interview, shall we? First up, we have our one and only principal, Mrs. Zltunich.

Mrs. Zlatunich

Mr. Nichols

Mr.Romer

Mrs. Zlatunich has been Taylor’s principal for 3 years, promoted during the pandemic.  She has been contributing to Taylor Middle school a lot. One question asked by Taylor students now has an answer, when asked, “Is it true that you work 50 hours a day?” Our principal gave a smile and denied it. ‘It might feel like that, but it doesn’t’. Apparently, she works 14 hours a day, our principal sure is hardworking. I asked Mrs. Zlatunich another question,” Do you like your job?'' Mrs. Zlatunich replied, ‘Love it’. “ I decided to ask a fun question, which applies to most teachers, “Do you run on coffee?”. I do not, I run on water, but I do have a cup of coffee in the morning. When inquired of her preference, she said, black coffee or cold brew, or a mixture of both. To sum it up, Mrs. Zlatunich is a hardworking person who tries to make a positive impact on students.

Let’s move on to our equally amazing vice principals, Mr. Romer and Mr. Nichols. Let’s start with Mr. Nichols. Mr. Nichols has 6 years of experience in the field of teaching, he taught high schoolers at El Camino High school before being employed as a vice principal at Taylor. It’s his first year at Taylor, yet he’s already doing a splendid job. When asked, “Do you like your profession?”, like his colleague, he responded with ‘love it’. Now for the main question students have been pondering for a while, why does he say “Hello bright young and wonderful people ''? According to Mr. Nichols, ‘I just want as many positive interactions with students because I think it helps encourages and helps create a positive climate’. I asked Mr. Nichols about his caffeine intake, and he responded with, “I drink one or two cups of coffee per day”. Overall, you can’t really hate Mr. Nichols, he’s a good guy trying to spread positivity.

Moving on to Mr. Romer, he’s been here teaching at Taylor for a year before becoming vice principal. He taught 8th grade US history, economics, and student leadership before becoming a Taylor vice principal. He has 15 years of teaching under his belt, and he previously taught at San Francisco’s middle schools. Not only that, but he taught five periods and a SEL class in his teacher era, and he’s fond of his fellow principals. ‘I like them very much, makes the job better’, Mr. Romer said. When asked, “Why did you apply to become a principal?” Mr. Romer humbly answered,’I wanted to help in a different way’. When asked about his caffeine intake, he calmly said ‘2 cups of coffee, one in the morning, one a little later’. He gave me a word of advice, ‘don’t drink coffee, it’s bad for you’.

In summary, our principals are hardworking individuals that only want the best for students. You should respect and try to make Taylor a safe place for everyone. The staff’s goal at Taylor is to make learning fun, enjoyable and a positive place for students to learn. We should all thank our principles and teachers for teaching us, even though they can be tired at times. They only want the best for you and to improve future generations. Preparing future generations has always been the goal of society.
