Mission Statement: Use performing arts as a vehicle to train responsible young students through utilizing national, state, core standards by:

  • Encouraging effective communication skills,
  • Developing a deep sense of personal commitment and accountability,
  • Promoting a high consciousness of achievement through individual and group work.

RULES AND DISCIPLINE

  • Respect.
  • Be on time and prepared.
  • Work hard.
  • No eating, drinking, or chewing gum.
  • No profanity or obscene language is acceptable or tolerated at ANY TIME!
  • No Bullying of any kind will be allowed!
  • HAVE FUN!

MATERIALS REQUIRED

A. Pencil

B. Instrument (and all applicable parts, such as reeds, valve oil, slide grease, amps, strap, tuner, etc.)

C. Band Method book

D. Sheet Music (will be supplied by school)

Concert Attire-

Christmas:

Ladies: Blouse, Skirt, or Dress (Christmas colors preferred: Black, White, Red, Green)

Dresses and skirts must be knee length or longer sitting and standing.

Gentlemen: White dress shirt, tie, dress pants, dress shoes, No Levis, no boots.

Spring:

Ladies: School clothes. No Shirts or pants with logos.

Gentlemen: School clothes. No Shirts or pants with logos.

ASSIGNMENTS

Students are responsible for turning in assignments finished, on time, and completed to the best of their ability.

In-class assignments/quizzes can be made up within two weeks after the assignment due date.

Review the website for upcoming assignments, performances, and tests.

PERFORMANCES

Students are required to attend ALL performances in relation to the class that they attend. Mr. Crowe will only consider medical and/or family emergencies for an excused absence from a performance. Unexcused absence from a performance will result in a two letter grade drop.

Performance Dates Subject to Change:

These dates are subject to change due to scheduling conflicts, but parents and students will be notified in a timely manner when/if they were to change.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is vital to student's success in performing arts. Students are required to be on time and prepared every day. 'Tardies' and 'Sluffs' are recorded in accordance with school policy.

TESTING

A. Tests will be given to music students on performance, music theory, aural skills, and improvisation.

B. Students will be given plenty of advanced notice on the timing of tests.

C. Study guides, individual practice, and assignments will assist in studying for the tests.

ASSESSMENT GRADING

Grades are divided into four categories:

-Daily Participation

-Practice Slips

-Performances

-Quizzes/Tests

Grading Scale:

100%-93% = A

92% - 90% = A-

89% - 87% = B+

86% - 84% = B

83% - 80% = B-

79% - 77% = C+

76% - 74% = C

73% - 70% = C-

69% - 67% = D+

66% - 63% = D

63% - 60% = D-

59% and > = F
