Course Description:


  • This course, designed for highly motivated freshmen, is taught in an interdisciplinary fashion, with an emphasis on “place.” With attention to structures and processes that have shaped twentieth history of Hawaii as well as contemporary politics and governance in Hawaii, students will explore the development of visual art, literature, performance art and political language in twentieth century Hawaii. Participation in Democracy is designed to facilitate active citizenship and effective political action to protect the “value of Hawaii.”
