What We Are Learning
Math- We have continued to practice multiplication!! Students have been deepening their understanding of multiplication and division using the factors 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10—and learning how these operations are connected and meaningful in everyday life.
Students have deepened their math vocabulary by using words like array, commutative property, and equal groups to describe what they see and solve more precisely.
Check out the photo (above) of the "Array City" we created this week!
Phonics- This week in phonics, students have been practicing words with the vowel-r patterns- er, ir and ur. We have been identifying and using these words correctly in our reading and writing pattern words in isolation and in passages.
Writing- In our narrative writing unit, students are becoming storytellers! We're focusing on crafting personal narratives—stories about real events from our own lives. Students will learn to:
Plan and organize their stories using graphic organizers.
Write engaging leads to capture the reader's attention.
Develop characters with clear traits and motivations.
Sequence events in a logical order.
Use descriptive details to make the story vivid.
Conclude with a meaningful ending.
Students have been working hard on "Fall Stories", which they were able to select specific characters, settings, problems and solutions. We are in the editing process right now...re-reading our rough drafts and adding more specific details and vocabulary.
We also had SO MUCH FUN putting together our NOUN TOWN this week. Check out the photo of our finished product (above).
Social Studies- In Social Studies, we’ve been diving into the exciting world of geography! Students are learning how to read and use maps by exploring map keys, symbols, and grid systems. We’ve also been practicing cardinal and intermediate directions using a compass rose, helping us better understand how to navigate the world around us. To take it a step further, we introduced latitude and longitude—imaginary lines that help us find exact locations on Earth. As we continue our journey, we’re exploring all seven continents, learning fun facts about each one, and locating them on a world map. It’s been a fun and engaging way to build our global awareness and map skills!
