What We Are Learning
Math- We have started Module 2 in math. In this module, we will be learning how to:
Tell and measure time to the nearest minute, and calculate elapsed time.
Measure and estimate liquid volume and mass (in metric units: liter, milliliter, kilogram, gram).
Round numbers to the nearest ten and nearest hundred.
Add and subtract two- and three-digit measurements using the standard algorithm (for units of measure).
Phonics- This week in phonics, we are learning to read and spell closed, simple multisyllable words.
Here are the patterns to practice this week:
Closed Syllable- Closed syllable words have 1 vowel letter followed by 1 or more consonants, and the vowel sound is short.
Closed, Simple Multisyllable- In a closed, simple multisyllable pattern word, each syllable follows the closed syllable pattern. There are two consonants between the vowels.
Writing- In our narrative writing unit, students are becoming storytellers! We're focusing on crafting personal narratives—stories about real events from our own lives. Students will learn to:
Plan and organize their stories using graphic organizers.
Write engaging leads to capture the reader's attention.
Develop characters with clear traits and motivations.
Sequence events in a logical order.
Use descriptive details to make the story vivid.
Conclude with a meaningful ending.
Social Studies- In Social Studies, we have been exploring the fascinating world of landforms and bodies of water — natural features like mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, and oceans. Students are creating their own “landform books,” where they pick a feature, learn its name, describe its characteristics, draw it, and locate it on a map. Understanding these features helps children see how the Earth’s surface is shaped and why geography matters in everyday life.
**Students have the option for an additional challenge!! Students may choose to learn their US States and Capitals. States and Capitals have been broken into five regions- Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southern and Western. Students may try the test at any point in the school year and retake it as many times as they would like to. There will be a prize awarded to any student who would like to participate in this challenge. There is no time limit for this challenge. Good luck!!
Here are some fun songs that students can listen to to help them learn!
