NZ Histories Curriculum

"Me mātai whakamuri, kia anga whakamua"

"To shape New Zealand’s future, let’s start with the past"

Aotearoa New Zealand's histories will be taught in all schools and kura from 2023 so ākonga|students can learn how our own histories have shaped our lives. In English-medium schools, histories will be taught as part of social sciences. In Māori-medium kura, Te Takanga a te Wā will be taught as part of Te Tikanga ā-Iwi.

The draft histories curriculum and the Tikanga ā-Iwi content set out broad ideas, contexts, and skills to learn. They do not set out specific topics to be taught. These are decided by schools and their communities as they set their local curriculums | Marau ā-kura.
