Brazilian artist, percussionist, composer, and music producer, Marcos Suzano, is famous for his expressiveness and remarkable technique when playing the Pandeiro (Brazilian Tambourine).
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Suzano is especially celebrated for his innovations with this instrument. He has developed techniques that have made his Pandeiro playing unique.
In his new show, Suzano is accompanied by Guilherme Gê on keyboard and Edu Neves on saxophone. The artist presents a rich percussive experiment based on the creation of real-time loops accompanied by instruments such as the Berimbau, Pandeiro, ATV aFrame, and HanSonic, an electronic percussion instrument.
Due to his professionalism and search for unusual percussive timbres, Suzano is one of the most hired Brazilian percussionists in the world. He has worked with international artists such as Sting, Andy Summers, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Joan Baez. In Brazil, he collects participation with artists like Gilberto Gil, Marisa Monte, and Ney Matogrosso.
The album Olho de Peixe (1993), recorded in partnership with singer Lenine, was a watershed moment in his career and a milestone in the dialogue between tradition and hypermodernity in Brazilian music.
Suzano has enjoyed a highly successful solo career, marked by the release of the albums Sambatown, Flash, and Atarashi. These works showcased the extensive and diverse potential of percussion, moving beyond its conventional role in an ensemble.
