Tournament FAQ

FAQ

Q. May I play qualifying games against anyone?

No, only against other people who have already registered for the tournament.

Q. Do I have to play my qualifying games at the library?

While we hope you will play at the library--we have the games, the forms, and tournament officials on staff--where you ultimately play your qualifying games is not important. The requirements are: Results submitted for points must be A) games from the official list, 2) between registered opponents, and 3) must be reported on the official form (on the reverse of this page) and turned in by 5pm on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

Q. Can I submit results of qualifying games online?

Yes! You can now submit your qualifying results online at THIS PAGE. Unregistered players who qualify (must be 12 years old or older and have a valid Mid-York Library System library card) may also register using this form.

Q. I can’t come to Unplug & Play on March 9/March 19 for the knockout rounds. May I still participate?

You may play qualifying games and score points; however, if you are not in attendance when knockout play begins at Unplug & Play on March 9, your first-round match will be forfeited and you will be eliminated. If all knockout rounds cannot be completed on March 9, the final rounds will be played on March 19. If you are scheduled for a match on that day and are not in attendance, your match will be forfeited and you will be eliminated.

Q. Whenever we play [game X], we never play with [rule Y]. May we play [game X] and not play with that rule?

All games are to be played by the rules included with the game. If there is a rules question, you and your opponent may attempt to answer it for yourselves from rules FAQs from either the game publisher’s website or from the rules forum section from that game’s page on www.boardgamegeek.com. If you cannot reach a consensus on a rules dispute, you may ask for an official ruling from tournament judges Peter Chien or Stephanie Markham at the library. Decisions rendered by the tournament judges are final in all matters relating to the tournament.

Q. What are the values of the prizes to be awarded?

Winners will be awarded gift certificates for use at the game store Cloud Giant in New Hartford. 1st Place: $55; 2nd Place: $30; 3rd Place: $15.

Q. What should I do if I notice something wrong with one of the games I checked out at the library?

Please bring any missing pieces or damaged games to the attention of the desk clerk BEFORE returning the game (otherwise, we cannot tell who had the game out before you). If you find a game is unplayable in its current state, please inform tournament judges Peter Chien or Stephanie Markham. We will attempt to correct the problem or remove the game from future play at the library. If it can be determined who caused the problem, that person may be charged a replacement cost for the game.
