I am a very passionate person that enjoys the humanity of all persons and is working for those that are most marginalized and not seen. I am journeying in birth work to help people to continue to live and to give others a chance at living. My plans are to legalization of persons doing birth work, justice for all and helping people to have choices in life.
I am a Black woman, non-gender conforming, in America that could have died during my last birth. I am a daughter, mother of three sons, sister, a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins. I am an USAF veteran and I hold the US to its declaration of whom it states it will be. I am a wife to an amazing minister of the Word and who fights against colonization, capitalism and for all minorities and those disadvantaged. I love animals and being outside. I hope to have a tiny home one day that can be moved from place to place as I'd like to be more nomadic.
As a student at Midwives College of Utah, I hope to gain more insight, share many lived experiences and make this world a better place than when it found me. This will be my for fourth degree and I believe it may be my last. This is my dream to help birthers bring life into this world. I have learned about home birth in the tri-state area (IN, KY, OH) and Washington state and birth center births in NH and WA. I completed my required births for MEAC and NARM in May 2023 and currently working towards graduation and Canadian requirements of 100 primary births. As of November 2023, I have completed the 100 primary births required to apply to the Internationally trained midwife program in Ontario in order to become a Registered Midwife. I have passed the NARM exam and have received my MI midwifery license.
Currently I am a Registered Sonographer, Certified Medical Assistant and tax professional. I have worked on different policies in the state of Texas to include postpartum, water shortage, prison reform, criminal justice reform, humanitarian crisis at the southern border and others. I have testified in Austin, state capital, for the issues of access to care in Texas and the difficulties as an able-bodied, educated, mother and Black woman veteran.
I like learning about people and their cultures. I like to try different foods that are important to others and their traditions. It is fun for me to travel to destinations and support the local economy and not to do the tourist things.
My philosophy of care is to provide informed consent, shared decision making, trauma informed, cultural safe and educated care by offering the standard of care and individual choice options. Evidence Informed Practice will be the cornerstone of my practice. The ability for the client to birth in their environment of choice is very important for safety and community and I support all safe choices. I want to provide care for all clients within my scope of care and collaborating with other health professionals allows for clients to stay low risk and in midwifery care. My ability to perform diagnostic ultrasounds allows my clients to have comprehensive care without leaving the clinic office for these needs. My philosophy is to provide personalized care for their familial needs during the perinatal period and provide a continuum of care. Safe care for Black, Indigenous, People of Color and 2SLGBTQIA+ community always. We can be the change we must see to survive!
