Students must be eligible in both face-to-face and virtual courses in order to participate in UIL events. Grades will be pulled for both face-to-face and virtual courses according to the posted Midway 2026-2027 U.I.L. Eligibility Grading Calendar for each grading period. 

Pearson virtual classes are semester-long courses and will continue to have rolling grades for the semester-long term. However, for UIL participants, we must pull the current grade at the end of the school day on the date listed as the final day of the 6-week grading period.  The eligibility calendar is linked below.  

If a student has a failing grade in any virtual or face-to-face class at the end of the school day on the final day of the grading period, they are ineligible and will remain so until the next three-week term, when they may regain eligibility. All dates are listed on the calendar. It is crucial that parents and students keep up with this calendar if they plan to participate in UIL events.

FAQ: How are online courses taken through the school district handled for academic purposes? Based on the understanding that any online or virtual class, taken via the Texas Virtual School Network (Tx- VSN) or other district- and state-approved provider, is handled through the local independent school district in which the student is enrolled, the following information would apply:

If the virtual course is for high school graduation requirements, and not eligible for exemption as an advanced class as discussed in this document, grades for the course must be submitted to the school at the scheduled high school grading periods and, if failing, will have an impact on academic eligibility. The grade report at the scheduled high school grading periods could be simply a pass/fail indication of the student’s progress at the time.

Midway ISD will capture grades at the end of the school day on the published final date of each six-week period. We will also capture grades at the end of the day at each progress report date for those students looking to regain eligibility.
