Concussion Management

Impact Testing

What Impact Testing Is:

  • A clinically useful, reliable, and valid concussion management program
  • A tool to help recovery from injury
  • A tool to help manage concussion (e.g. return to academics, return to exertion, return to play)
  • A tool to help communicate post-concussion status to athletes, coaches, parents and clinicians

Impact baseline tests will be completed by each athlete before athletic participation. If an athlete sustains a concussion, impact tests will be completed again. The new test will be compared to the athlete's baseline test to help determine readiness for academic and/or athletic participation. Impact testing is not a diagnostic tool. Concussion diagnosis will be completed by the athletic trainer, family doctor or concussion specialist.

If you are not cleared for participation because you need an impact test you must see the athletic trainer for proper paperwork and login information.

If you need an ImPACT test make sure you get the take home testing paperwork from the athletic trainer.

Once you have the website and the password watch the attached video so you are prepared for the test.

Concussion Management

Concussion Management State and District Protocols will be followed at all times for concussions.

The State Protocol can be found at http://www.njsiaa.org/concussion-information

District Policies and Procedures for concussion can be found at: Middle Township Concussion Policy

In all cases, either the SCAT evaluation and/or doctor evaluation, and the return to play protocol will be followed. These are based on the Consensus Statement from the 2017 Berlin Conference.

At no point will an athlete be permitted to return to participation from a suspected head injury without proper documentation from their family doctor, or if needed a neurologist or concussion specialist.
