In alignment with the NJSLS for World Languages, the Middletown World Languages program prepares students for college and career readiness, while addressing the national need for multilingual and culturally competent citizens who are able to communicate effectively and engage respectfully in a global society. Through sequential, multi-year courses of study in spoken and signed languages, students develop proficiency in interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication. Instruction emphasizes real-world language use and the development of listening, speaking/signing, reading, and writing skills. Advanced coursework and dual enrollment opportunities allow students to extend language study beyond traditional upper-level courses. During their senior year, students may be awarded the NJ Seal of Biliteracy by demonstrating proficiency on a state approved assessment. Overall, the MTPS World Languages program fosters lifelong learning, intercultural awareness, and the communication skills necessary for active participation in an increasingly interconnected world.
