In the twenty-first century classroom, technology is an important part of learning and the constructivist theory fosters this learning environment extremely well. Technology provides the student with educational situations in which they employ and communicate information efficiently by gathering documentation to develop strategies of building knowledge (ȘTEFAN, M. A, 2017).

Student engagement of a lesson within a given subject area is a reflection of a student’s personal effort to build their own knowledge database which can later be applied to real-world situations both inside and outside of the classroom. The student plays the role of investigator, researcher, collaborator, and creator of their own work which is the pinnacle of twenty-first century learning

ADDIE Instructional Design Model

At the start of any learning unit, it is important to analyze the learner on both a group and individual scale.
Next, the design and development of materials takes place which is a systematic approach to reaching the needs of each of the learners.
Then it is time to implement the assignment to students, and observe their ability to scaffold in order to meet intended learning outcomes.
Finally, it is time to evaluate the assignment both formatively, and summatively in terms of students success.

Assessment Examples

The beginning of the learning process includes a presentation of informative materials that students will use to gain information that will assist in meeting targeted learning objectives.

Formative Assessment

In the form of a do now and/or exit ticket assignments at the beginning and/or end of each class period to ensure student understanding.

Summative Assessment

Project based learning in the form of a summative assessment can provide a means of assessment of learner accomplishment that has more depth than strictly objective assessments.
Project based assessments will be the summative evaluation of a learner-produced project, the learner’s participation in written explanation of the subject area and self reflection, as well as application and use of the skills acquired in the lesson.
