Why did you decide to attend Middlebury?

Living my entire life in Seattle, I wanted to experience living and going to school back east. Also, the opportunity to continue playing football was central to my decision.

What are some of the factors that sparked your interest in Middlebury? At what age did you hear about the school?

My mother is an alumna, so I knew about Middlebury long before I started looking at colleges. She briefly played field hockey here and was an English major.

How have you balanced your academic class load with your athletic schedule?

It is challenging especially during the season, but I've found that getting work done during the day so I'm not overloaded with my academics after practice is key.

What are some of the volunteer opportunities you have done either here on campus (United Way, etc) or back in the great northwest?

In the past, I've volunteered at summer camps at the local YMCA in Seattle. It was great to help young kids enjoy physical activity. I have also donated time to the Salvation Army in Seattle, ringing the bell for donations around Christmastime.

What things have you learned during your playing career in a Panther football uniform? What have you learned from Coach Ritter and the other coaches?

I think the most important thing I have learned from Coach Ritter and playing football is focusing on only what I can control. Two phrases that Coach always uses on a daily basis are "it's about the guys in this room" and "it's about what we do, not them." That applies to not only football but life in general. Knowing what I can control as well as not worrying about what I cannot has helped me greatly.

At what age did you find a love for the game of football, enough to continue to pursue it at such a high level here at Middlebury?

I have always loved watching football but I did not start playing until late. I really enjoyed it those final two years in high school and wanted to continue to play at some level. I did not start doing recruiting forms or visits until after my senior season ended, so I was lucky that Middlebury still had interest.

What do you have planned for next year's J term and after graduation (internship, job, etc)?

I am interested in attending law school or possibly the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) in the future, given my International Politics and Economics background.

You had mentioned that you did an internship at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle. How did you hear about the internship and what types of jobs and tasks did you do while there?

It was a great way to get work experience in an office setting around lawyers and other Department of Justice (DOJ) officials. A lot of my work consisted of research in applying for federal grants, particularly Project Safe Neighborhood.

You studied abroad in Brazil and also said you are going to work the 2016 Summer Olympic games there next summer. Do you have any idea of what you will do while there?

Not as of yet, though I'm interesting in doing any kind of support work for NBC at the Olympics or the United States of America team given my language skills and experience in Brazil. It is an exciting opportunity and I am really looking forward to being a part of it all.
