Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Middlebury College Class of 2026/26.5:

Green Dot

The Green Dot Violence Prevention Strategy is a national program that trains students, faculty, and staff in bystander intervention to help prevent instances of power-based personal violence (PBPV). PBPV is a form of violence where one individual asserts power, control, or intimidation over another to cause harm. This includes dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment. When these moments of violence occur on our campus, they’re seen as red dots. A “Green Dot” is defined as any action, choice, word, or attitude that counters or displaces a “red dot” of violence, reducing the likelihood that someone will be hurt. This not only promotes safety for everyone in the Middlebury community, but also sends a clear message that we do not tolerate violence on our campus.

First-Year Student-Athlete Leadership & Life Skills

The first-year student-athlete leadership and life skills program began in the fall of 2017 and is open to all first-year student-athletes.  The program connects first-years with upperclass mentors to strengthen the Middlebury athletics' community and help them build valuable leadership and life skills.  Students engage with campus resources such as the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Research (CTLR), Experiential Learning Center (ELC), Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, as well as outside resources.

Sustainability

Middlebury is proud to support a sustainability program in the athletic department. Each Middlebury team has a sustainability liaison, like an environmental captain, who is responsible for indentifying sustainable improvements that might be made to the program. The sustainability liaisons, Athletic Director and Office of Sustainability Integration are currently working together to implement a Green Certification program for Middlebury's sports teams.

Student-Athlete of Color Organization

The purpose of the Middlebury College Student-Athletes of Color Organization (SAOC) is to provide a safe space for Student-Athletes—Varsity and Club—who identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to celebrate their identity, its intersectionality and embrace the challenges that come with these individual identities. SAOC will utilize open-forum conversations, mindful workshops, and restorative group practices to facilitate dialogue about racial diversity and inclusion within the Athletic Department and the broader Middlebury College community.

Student-Athlete Adivsory Committee

SAAC provides a voice for student-athletes within the Middlebury College community, represents the interests of student-athletes to the administration, undertakes projects that benefit all members of the community and fosters a positive student-athlete image.
