AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance, which is direct deposited into member bank accounts every two weeks (can be thought of as a salary). MCAN is proud that our living stipend is amongst the highest in the state of Michigan.
After successfully completing your AmeriCorps term of service, AmeriCorps members will be eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. You can use the award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs. Learn more about the education award here.
The AmeriCorps Childcare Benefits Program provides benefits paid to qualified childcare providers for all or part of the member's childcare costs during their active term of service with AmeriCorps. Learn about the program and see what you may qualify for here.
All full-time AmeriCorps members are given the opportunity to accept or waive health care insurance provided through Cigna. See more details about the health care plan here (subjet to change annually) and/or watch this video.
If you’re employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you might be eligible for the PSLF Program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you’ve made the equivalent of 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan, and while working full-time for an eligible employer. (AmeriCorps is considered an eligible employer).
AmeriCorps members may be eligible to have the repayment of their qualified student loans postponed while serving in AmeriCorps; this is referred to as forbearance. While interest may continue to accrue during service, if members successfully complete their service experience, the National Service Trust will pay all or a portion of the qualified loan’s interest that accrued during service. Learn more here.
For AmeriCorps members who want to be fully employed by MCAN after their term of service must still go through the hiring process. However, if they are selected and begin employment at MCAN, service with one of our AmeriCorps programs counts towards "years at MCAN" which makes the employee eligible to begin receiving MCAN's education support program. See more about working at MCAN here.
