Fair Presentation
Lesson 6:7
Lesson 6:7
Fair presentation goes beyond where the information appears and what is emphasized in a newscast or in a written report. It includes the selection of illustrations and visual journalism (photos, videos, charts & graphics)
In the covers below, are two examples of UNfair presentations of the two current presidential nominees.
Trump's image comes from the 2016 election, and is clearly an illustration, which isn't labeled. Joe Biden's picture from the New York Post comes from this year, and doesn't explain when and where this picture may have come from.
While its true that someone can take an image and give it any particular meaning that they wish, what we hope to see from news outlets are attempts at fair presentations of those images, which would include a descriptive caption.
We'll continue applying fairness and balance to a TV news piece on the next page.
