The beach of Normandy, France, was invaded by Ally ships. Not only did many soldiers on both sides of this battle lose their lives, but so did 20,000 French civilians. Although Normandy is in France it was being controlled by the Nazis. The Ally forces that had invaded Normandy soon reorganized and pushed into Germany.
