The attack on Pearl Harbor killed 2,300 soldiers and wounded another 1,000. President Franklin D. Roosevelt said that it was a, "sudden and deliberate" attack. Although the damage was great, all three of the US's Pacific Fleet's aircraft carriers were at sea. The vast majority of the ships damaged in Pearl Harbor were soon repaired and returned to duty. However, the USS Oklahoma and Arizona were both destroyed accounting for 2/3 of the total death count.
