Melinda Barman

Undergraduate Student

Major: Chemistry (B.A.) & Integrated Science Education (B.S.)

Joined Yezierski Group: Spring 2022

Expected Graduation: Spring 2025

Research Interests

I am interested in studying the implementation or lack thereof of various educational tactics best suited to help promote active cognitive learning defined by Mayer's Multimedia Principles to further guide educators and creators on best practices and to aid in the learning outcomes of novice chemistry students. I am also interested in researching methods of mentoring new and current educators on best practices to engage with and successfully educate students regarding the novice-expert divide found between learners and educators based on the cognitive learning theory.

Aspirations after graduation

After graduating, I hope to work in inner-city schools as a high school chemistry teacher. During this time, I look forward to pursuing a master's in education or chemistry as I build a career in education and toward the next steps post-high school teaching.
