Steps
Environmental samples from around Miami University were collected.
Any phages in the samples were purified using Arthrobacter globiformis, the bacteria our phages attack.
The discovered phages were named.
The phages were propagated.
DNA was isolated from the phages.
In theory, here we would proceed to annotate phages isolated in MBI 223. However, DNA sequencing revealed cross-contamination of the isolated DNA samples that prevented sequence analysis, so two phages from the Genome Exchange were selected for genome sequence and analysis.
The genomes of the two selected phages (NyleyClemson and Phaila) were sequenced and annotated to determine the identity and function of their genes.
