What can we learn from our project?
Through this project, we were able to isolate two bacteriophages previously unknown to science, Phaila and NyleyClemson. We successfully annotated their genomes and found genes encoding proteins such as HNH endonuclease, helix-turn-helix domain, PnuC-like nicotinamide riboside transporter, and DNA primase/polymerase. We also found three genes in Phaila that were not described in any other annotated phages. We had the opportunity to participate in research, present it, and contribute to the growing field of phage biology.
