We discovered that the presence of L. maackii has a significant impact on the canopy coverage and temperature of the forest floor. Furthermore, L. maackii negatively impacted the growth of native ephemerals, shortening their flowering windows and decreasing their overall abundance. The continued growth and spread of L. maackii will cause further decline in native populations, and could eventually lead to the elimination of certain native species in some Ohio forests.
