We are Geoffrion Undergraduate Fellows, part of the Altman Program for the Humanities. Each year, the Altman Program chooses a theme for students and faculty to study alongside each other. This year, the theme is the Midwest, a region that is said to be the essence of the United States, and yet is remarkably resistant to a single definition.Â
Our group project has focused on examining important figures from Miami's past, including unacknowledged individuals. We framed our research by evaluating those in Miami's past who now have buildings in their name, and those whose voices haven't been heard.
