Where the winds of the Silk Road carry the sounds of the world.
Silkwind Mundi is an avant-garde ensemble weaving sonic textures from East to West. Inspired by the ancient Silk Road, a historic cultural highway, the group channels the invisible winds that carry musical traditions across continents and centuries. Through bold collaborations and innovative repertoire, Silkwind Mundi creates soundscapes that are at once timeless and unconventional, inviting listeners on a journey that transcends borders through musical storytelling at the heart of global spirit.
Aaron Pergram and Alexander Strader form a distinctive duo bridging Western classical traditions with the vibrant sounds of Chinese musical heritage.
Pergram, Assistant Professor of Bassoon at Miami University, is an international performing artist whose work centers on avant-garde music by composers of the Chinese diaspora. His multinational commission project, The Dragon Dream, explores new sound worlds by pairing the bassoon with Chinese traditional instruments and vocal practices.
Strader, a Texas-born clarinetist and sheng performer, brings the ancient Chinese mouth organ into contemporary concert life. Classically trained yet committed to cross-cultural exploration, he has appeared as a soloist at the Soundwaves Music Festival, the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., and prestigious venues in China, including the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Soong Ching Ling Foundation.
Together, Pergram and Strader share a vision of musical exchange that transcends borders, weaving diverse traditions into performances that are at once innovative and deeply rooted in cultural dialogue. Their artistry reflects years of travel, study, and collaboration across Asia, the Americas, and beyond—offering audiences a fresh, boundary-crossing musical experience.
