Formula SAE (FSAE) is a collegiate engineering competition organized by SAE International, where university teams design, build, and race small, open-wheel, formula-style race cars. The competition challenges students to apply real-world engineering, business, and project management skills in a high-performance motorsports environment. Teams are evaluated on design, manufacturing, cost analysis, and dynamic performance through rigorous testing and racing events. Formula SAE provides students with hands-on experience that prepares them for careers in motorsports, automotive engineering, and related industries.
After the reforming of our Formula SAE team after the COVID pandemic, the team has been working on designing a brand new all-electric Formula car for the newest ruleset with the introduction of FSAE's electric class. Over the last few years, including with the help of senior design projects, our members have been hard at work designing the new frame, suspension components, drivetrain, and all other major components.Â
Currently, the team has finalized the frame design for order and manufacturing, incorporated senior designs for the accumulator (electric system and batteries) and suspension systems, and made great progress on other major systems such as steering and drivetrain. Going forward, the team will finalize these designs, get the frame in, and start the manufacturing process for putting it all together. The team is currently on a goal to go racing once again, starting in June 2027. For the future, the team hopes to rebuild the team to its full potential and create a platform for future and prospecting students to come into, learn, and expand the team to adapt and build cars for the future.
