SPRING 2024 ADJUSTED PLANS
Gear Ratio
Gear ratio refers to the relationship between the rotational speeds of two interlocking gears. In FSAE cars, achieving a top speed of 120 kph before the motor enters field weakening at 6500 RPM requires selecting gear ratios that balance torque and speed to optimize acceleration and performance.
Battery Calculations
Sizing the battery for an FSAE EV is crucial for balancing performance, weight, energy density, safety, and cost. It directly impacts performance, weight distribution, and overall agility on the track, while also affecting safety and budget considerations.
Step 1: Determine required battery capacity via simulated power draw
Total Energy = 7.32 kWh
Step 2: Calculate DC Voltage and Module Capacity
Battery DC Voltage =330 V
Step 3: Calculate Number of Battery Modules
No. of Series Modules: 82
Module Capacity: 91.5 Wh
FALL 2023 PLANS
Battery Pack Sizing
We simulated a lap around an FSAE course using OptimumLap to determine the required battery size. The load profile represents how much power is drawn throughout a lap.
